Examining How the Church Treats Singles

Your friendly reminder that Jesus was single!

With important considerations for both singles and non-singles, Jill and Paula discuss the ways church can be an isolating experience for singles. Discussion topics include the question of if singleness is a problem to be solved (spoiler alert: NO! We should stop problematizing singleness), how church systems can create an unwelcome environment for singles and make singles feel "less than" and the pressure to couple up to feel included in the church--with some twisty side roads along the way.

Billboards! Where does this concept show up in pop culture and/or current events? Here are a few of the ones we mentioned in this episode:   Jerry Maguire, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Bridget Jones' Diary, He's Just Not that into You, pretty much all of the Hallmark movies... tag us on social media if you've got others!

This is a beautiful article by the Rev. Dr. Denise Anderson, Moderator of the 222nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church(USA) on the difference between welcome and invitation.
